Swanky Scrunchie

Scrunchie – Whenever I’m chillen in my sweats, there is a 99.9% chance my hair is in a scrunchie. It’s the epitome of hang-time, the grungiest of grunge looks, and the cloudy with a chance of never leaving bed kind of spirit. Swankyadj. 1. A person or object that is posh, high-class, glamorous, classy, upmarket, etc. Paired side-by-side I consider this the godfather of oxymorons; quite frankly it is the paradigm that runs not only my life, but also my fashion style.

Father Time

(Blazer: Vintage,  Jeans: Elizabeth and James TEXTILE, Tank: Urban Outfitters, Wedges: Cynthia Vincent, Bag: Alexander Wang)

Ancient of Days is not only the painting in the background by William Blake of father time in the first picture, but also the perfect way to describe my sister’s vintage blazer. I love the way the masculine old-fashioned burnt orange blazer compliments my soft feminine white floral tank. Paired with light-washed jeans and chunky wedges this ensemble makes the cut for both dinner with the grandparents and a night of brews at the bar. As father time emerges from the blazing sun, my interest in vintage is slowly taking its toll on my fashion role.

(Blouse: Free People, Shorts: Levis, Shoes: Sperry, Headband: Missoni, Sunglasses: Burberry)

My golf swing may be far from a par-four, but I’d say my outfit is a hole-in-one on this magnificent day. While I would highly recommend not wearing a cropped linen blouse, short denim shorts and metallic topsiders on the golf course, strutting your stuff in a hippie-esk getup at the pool will definitely turn some heads. Nothing beats a wide knit headband while tanning; its width prevents hair from sticking to your greased-up sunblock face, while its pattern adds some swank to your swimsuit. Sorry dad, but what I lack in my handicap, I make up for in style.

Playful Poncho

(Poncho: Missoni, Jeans: Rag&Bone, Shoes: Chanel, Clutch: Lauren Merkin)
Happy Holidays! Bright skinny jeans were to summer as matte neutrals are to winter. It’s difficult to find a top these jeans do not match; not to mention the twill fabric stretches like leggings. This poncho's versatility is endless; it can be styled as a top, as a beach cover up, and as a scarf. Its tribal pattern definitely camouflages me into this fake plant. Lately I’ve been really into clutches, possibly because I misplace any type of bag that I do not have a firm grip on. The small studs give the clutch a little holiday sparkle; it will definitely be making an appearance on New Years Eve, which is just around the corner!

Siesta Key Sunsets

(Dress: Yumi Kim, Blouse: H&M, Hat: Mint by goorin)
Nothing is more breathtaking than sunsets on Siesta Key, America’s number one ranked beach of 2011 by the Laboratory of Costal Research.  The break of the wind flutters this floor-length dress so elegantly as its silk material dances in the breeze. A drastic temperature drop always ensues a sunset on the beach and it’s necessary to have a cardigan or shrug on hand. This sheer blouse not only covers my shoulders and adds warmth, but also cinches the waistline of the rather unstructured dress. The 1970’s are back, and I’m a HUGE fan of floppy hats; it doesn’t get more glamorous than a UVB blockin’ brim!

Break Boredom

(Blouse: Patterson J. Kincaid, Vest: 525 America, Pants: 7for all mankind, Hat: Urban Outfitters)

When we were eight, we played with Barbies; when we were sixteen, we played with boys; when we’re twenty-one, well, we play dress up. As the deluge of rain refuses to cease, my best friend and I are quite literally rained-in. After watching the entire season of Revenge (we are hooked), reliving our nostalgic memories of playing dress-up seems like the next best option. Alexa’s debonair blouse is made of white chiffon silk; its sheerness is sexy yet tasteful. The detail on the sleeves and the collar is fabricated with scrunched material that has a raw finish, giving it a victorian Mozart vibe. I nicknamed these pants “velduroys,” they’re not quite corduroys, they’re not quite jeans, yet they are quite velvet. Velduroys are this winter’s new jeggings; paired with the fur fest, this outfit’s fierce fashionista flames can put out any winter chill. It’s a tidbit incongruous that this hat is my staple summertime pool accessory, but after all, we are playing dress up. Engrossing our mundane minds in clothing is the perfect way to cure our break boredom blues.

What's In The Mix

(Skirt: Zara, Blouse: Equipment, Sweater Vest: BB Dakota, Flats: Chanel, Wedges: Sam Edelman, Bag: Givenchy, Watch: Michael Kors, Headband: Missoni, Sunglasses: Prada)

In my opinion, it takes much more dexterity to clash an outfit than to match an outfit. Sometimes it’s fun to think outside the box by mixing patterns and colors that most people would eschew. Neon and leopard? Heavy sweater and delicate skirt? This outfit is a quintessential mish-mosh of conflicting styles, seasons, and colors, but somehow it works. I simply couldn’t decide which shoes to wear, then it dawned on me, I didn’t have to! The edgy Sam Edelman wedges dress it up; the espadrille flats tone it down. I’m the biggest advocate of capacious bags, drawing inspiration from the eminent Mean Girls quote, “That’s why her bag is so big, its full of secrets!” I may have slightly changed the quote, however that is beside the point. A bag of this amplitude makes me feel like Mary Poppins, quite literally I can fit CVS in here. I highly recommend next time you’re getting dressed, choose completely contrasting audacious statement pieces, and somehow make them work. So what’s in your mix?

Fall Back

(Sweater: Calvin Klein, T-Shirt: Wildfox, Corduroys: Forever21, Shoes: Sam Edelman, Belt: Hermes, Ring: Soixante Neuf)
The time has come to say goodnight to the sun at 4:00pm, as winter begins to permeate the fall sky. While the world may have gained an extra hour of sleep, we have lost both the leaves and the daylight. It's ironic they call it daylight savings; isn’t daylight losings (if grammatically correct) more appropriate? That being said, the time has come to whip out the winter corduroys. Burnt auburn seems to be really in; paired with neutrals and beiges this outfit reminds me of a cozy fire. A vintage T is my best friend; it adds a laidback yet chic feel to any outfit. The feather trim on this sweater picks up the leopard color scheme of the loafers. If we’re going to fall back, we might as well do it in style J.

Fashionably Late

(Sweater: Rag&Bone, Skirt: Zara, T-Shirt: Kain, Knee-Highs: Vintage, Shoes: Jeffrey Campbell, Necklace: H&M)

Time flies when your having fun (or have an insane amount of midterms), hence this post is fashionably late. I always wear this pleated leather skirt with knee-highs; it makes that “innocent schoolgirl” statement. Paired with my chunky lace-up Litas, and leopard hosiery the outfit screams good girl gone bad. This cashmere sweater feels like butter purée; its two-tone nature gives it a funky fuzzy flare, complimented by my soft Indy feather necklace. Bright lips are on all the runways and being the makeup guru that I am, I try to incorporate a kiss of color here and there. There are times in life when a girl is running a little late. They say that some lack time management (ehh hem); and others lack closet management, take your pick.

Keepin' it Classy

(Sweater: Bik Bok, Leggings: Calvin Klein, Jacket: Massimo, Florence, Italy, Boots: Franco Sarto, Bag: Carlos Falchi, Glasses: Tom Ford)

The brisk wind is howling on my window as my alarm irritatingly beeps 9:00am. All I want to do is curl up in my warm bed and sleep for infinity, however this thing called class tends to get in my way. The trees are becoming barren and the crisp fall air is officially here. As badly as I would like to throw on an oversized sweatshirt, leggings and Uggs, my fashionista conscience is telling me no. I grab my favorite butt covering black crochet sweater and staple black leather riding boots to jazz up the mundane legging look. I found this lambskin motorcycle jacket in authentic leather shop in the heart of Florence. The decadent leather will definitely keep the chills away, I think to myself while scurrying out the door, already 5 minutes late. Word of advice: never sacrifice class for class ;)

Game Day Swag

(Hoodie: Colosseum Athletics Los Angeles, T-shirt: Alternative Vintage, Jeans: Biscote, Shoes: Converse, Sunglasses: Marc Jacobs, Hat: Zephyr)

First and ten Wisconsin! Its that day of the week again that is so highly anticipated, GAMEDAY. Wisconsin spirit is in the air; there's no better feeling than walking down State Street in a sea of red abyss. Bright colored skinny jeans have been trending since the spring; so investing in your school’s colors’ is just as tactful as is it is spirited. These jeans are my party pants, their stretch and dexterity makes them ideal for not only tailgates but also Saturday nights at Logans. I try to wear “all red err-thing,” for true Wisconsin pride but this black vintage Bucky tee balances the outfit; lets face it, I’m not trying to wear a red jumpsuit. The flat-rim hat defines “swag,” and is my ultimate bad hair day accessory. These are my John Lennon shades; their circular shape is universally flattering. I haven’t been able to take them off since I got them! If you look closely at the Converse, they are adorned with studs and turquoise embellishment, definitely not your everyday Converse, hence I steal them from my sister on a regular basis J.  Embrace your school spirit; turn your swag on.

Sequins and Skittles

(Blouse: Theory, Blazer: Maje, Shorts: sample sale on 5th ave, Shoes: Vera Wang Lavender, Bag: Alexander Wang)

Lights! Camera! Skittles? Lets try that again: Lights! Camera! Sequins! Okay a little cheesy but I thought Campus Candy would be a vibrant venue for a photo shoot. This post is a shout out to those poor bedazzled garments that are thrown in the back of our closets, accumulating dust after wearing them once, more specifically on the night of December 31st. Sequins are most commonly worn for a night out on the town; however, throw in a daytime bag and nude flats, and you have yourself a chic outfit for work. The dapper blush blouse tones down the sequin shorts, giving the outfit a more conservative vibe. When I first saw this blazer in Paris at a store called Maje, we fell in love. Trying to cut back on my shopping splurges in Parí, I resisted buying it. While perusing one of my best friend’s closets at school (thanks Alyssa), there she was, her glamorous cerulean sequins staring right back at me! This bag is an absolute must; it takes the basic black satchel to the next level with its adorned rustic gold studs. So ladies, do something bold and take your outfit to the next level by incorporating some swanky sparkle!
Au Revoir,
